Commonwealth Transportation Board revisits routing decision for Interstate 73

RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) – More than 30 years after Interstate 73 was first proposed, the Commonwealth Transportation Board is revisiting a decision that established the corridor.

Early plans called for the highway to pass through six states, including 140 miles in western Virginia, but the billions of dollars needed for the Virginia section have never materialized. And state transportation officials say it’s unfair to landowners along the route of a proposed highway that might never be built.
