Truckers need extra time to deliver goods due to I-40 closures

The closure of Interstate 40 in North Carolina means the goods you need are taking longer to arrive and will cost more.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Hours of extra driving over hundreds of miles and it’s not costing more to ship products across state lines.

The closure of Interstates 40 and 26 could have a lasting impact.

The president of BIR Transport in Knoxville, said it’s costing hundreds of dollars more to get goods around the 40 closure.

“Greenville, Spartanburg area is three and a half hours longer. So some of that we had to go back to our customers for price increases. So you know, 90 miles extra, Charlotte 100, almost 200 miles to some of the areas,” said Jimmy Bir Singh with BIR Transportation.
